You Must Choose...Wisely

Not sure that title applies, but it's awesome and from one of my fave flicks, so I put it down.

As I take a small break from football, I opened my little notebook and jotted down some more new ideas. I've been going nuts with ideas. I'm on my second Moleskine® notebook in 5 months (already 200 pages worth of ideas!). I get very excited about writing new projects and stories, but lately I am finding myself not as enthused when it comes to directing.

Don't get me wrong, I love making movies and the process of shooting intrigues me and makes it fun. But the tedium of organizing the shoot, getting it ready, casting (from the sense of going through hundreds of headshots), locations, tires me out. I know it's because I don't have a big enough crew to do that, and someday I will. But right now it's busy work that slows me down.

I got to thinking one day it's better to be a writer. You do the whole thing yourself, on your time and when you're done, it's done. Whereas once you're done shooting there's still the editing process. I thought for a moment it'd be better to just be a writer.

Then I realized that was silly. I LOVE directing, and given my personal situation, it may be harder to do it, but I still want to do it. But for a while there, I felt like I had to choose wisely.

These moments of doubt are good, they make you question what you're doing and force you to have an objective perspective. And by doing so, you can make sure your decision is a wise one. I think I've made it.
